About

Rising Sage: The Nonprofit

Earlier this year Jamie Garrison and Lacea Zavala announced plans for a new nonprofit organization, Rising Sage, a branch of Inner Sage: The Studio, The Stop, The Lifestyle, with the new addition of The Nonprofit. As single mothers themselves, yogis, and social workers who have the privilege of obtaining the healing benefits from wellness activities, the mission for Rising Sage  is to help mothers in southeast Michigan who otherwise would not have access overcome barriers (cost, transportation, childcare, etc.) in accessing wellness practices such as yoga, mindfulness, and mental health support.

The inspiration for Rising Sage: The Nonprofit is a result of the Co-founders passion for, and familiarity with, the benefits of yoga/wellness related services and mental health resources and their experience working in the yoga and mental health/community-based industries. They have identified that there is a lack of opportunity for single, marginalized/underserved mothers to access such services due to barriers surrounding cost, childcare, transportation, etc.

Overall, the goal for Rising Sage is to utilize a protective factors framework to support and lift up mothers and strengthen families.  Mothers with resources to afford our programming are welcome to participate with fees for service that will likely have a sliding scale based on income.

Eight dimensions of wellness

The plan for Rising Sage is to create a module-based program working with the Eight Dimensions of Wellness (Emotional, Spiritual, Intellectual, Physical, Environmental, Financial, Occupational, and Social). There will be a yoga component to each Dimension, a topic of the month, and a series of workshops. The nonprofit will also provide scholarships for marginalized/underserved mothers to access yoga/Reiki trainings, workshops, classes, festivals, and retreats. Most of these classes/workshops/training will be offered to the public and a portion of tuition will support the nonprofit.
